We need to create a basic contract between the King (Mr. Parry), and the people. In one sentence explain the one thing you want me to provide for you as the leader. (For example is his primary concern Protect your money, Protect you Rights, Protect your Happiness).
Process Part I

  • If you want rights you must carefully select them.
  • People only limit the government from abusing them by knowing their rights
  • We will look at 16 rights / values that made up the core of English social values.
  • We can only select 8 rights / values that will protect us from the national government
  • We will then apply your actions to a series of situations which tie into the lab and American political development
Process Part II

  • Goals
  • 1. to protect our rights
  • 2. limit the power of government / King
  • Mr. Parry will form the King/Queens advisory corps.
  • By the way, the King/Queen only speaks German which Mr. Parry will happily translate to the class / citizens.

John Locke Instructions:

  • List the one that you feel best protects the people from the government.
  • Be prepared to discuss these.
  • Analysis: Explain how the one value you selected from John Locke limits the power of gov’t in 1-2 sentences.
  1. From the list of rights provided by the Magna Carta, English Bill of Rights and John Locke, your group must select 8 and list them below.
  2. These rights are designed to protect you from the King/Queen. Selecting the wrong type of protection means that the King/Queen might abuse you politically.
  3. Be prepared to discuss these as we get set to vote for our rights.
  4. We will set up a rough draft and then a final version
  5. These rights will stay with us throughout the duration of our monarchy - this could last all year in some form.
