Conflict is a part of life and cannot ever be totally avoided. When groups of people come together in the same space it is natural that they will disagree about some things or cause us to get upset or frustrated at times.
However, when we manage conflicts well we can strengthen bonds and come to a better understanding.

Let's have a go at putting this learning into practice with the following scenario.

In a Social Studies lesson the two boys you want to work with say you can't join their group.
How does that make you feel?

How can you helpyourself to control your challenging feelings?

Once you have got your emotions under control it's time to tell them how you feel. Write down what you would say below.


Next you have to try and understand their reasons for not wanting you to join. You might ask "Why do you not want me to join your group?"
How can you show that you are really considering what they are telling you?

The boys explain that the last time you were in their group you would not listen to their ideas and were rude to them.
What should you do now?
