For a while I've been using the weekly "What's Going on in this Graph?" series from the New York Times (https://www.nytimes.com/column/whats-going-on-in-this-graph) as a way to help my students develop skills in reading and thinking critically about the graphs,maps,infographs that they may encounter on different forms of media. The format of each is always the same, a couple of questions that can be answered by looking at the graph itself and the "thinking" questions that ask the students to record their noticings.
