This quick exercise will help diminish non constructive conversation (students that do not pay attention and disrupt the learning environment). While students are very disengaged, in your normal direct instructrion voice, say the following statement: "The answers are as follows: 1: a, 2: b, 3: c, 4: d, 5: a. Don't worry about the true answers, just put my answers in and you will get a 100."

Then show students the results and prove your point on how many really pay attention to you during direct instruction.
